Isn’t Signing Emails Useless?

August 29, 2007

After years of writing “-Tom” at the bottom of every one of my emails, I feel like I have been wasting my time.

The receiver already knows the email is from me.  This signature data is just completely redundant and only takes up space and bandwidth.  Now, very little space and bandwidth, but it is still something.   Especially if you compound that by every person who uses email world-wide.

Let’s get rid of this useless data and stop signing emails.
